i just saw a  band on myspace called Dying Behind the Ghosts of Angels.  Best band name ever?  From what I know angels are sort of ghosts already right?  so this is some extremely deep, meta-metaphysics already,  and then they throw in the preposition. . . i mean if you are dying, and somehow this involves second order spectral beings does it really matter if you are dying behind them or in front of them or even "among'" a few of them?  How about Dying 'within' the ghosts of angels? A more pleasant way to go or worse? If you guys are out there googling your name I want some answers!

so many levels [Jun. 13th, 2007|09:48 pm]

some kind of Cirque du Soleil wannabe act is coming to ann arbor this month. they are called Strange Fruit.   now if you must be a goofball, new-age mime suspended on a tall flexible pole you should not name your act after a famous song about lynching.  that is just offensive

Stars collide, and the air's alive [Jun. 8th, 2007|05:23 pm]
for a long time i have thought that the worst song in history was the "has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham"  song by Dion,  but just today in the grocery store I heard a new contender

speaking of music.  what has happened to WJLB?  it seems like they play nothing but r&barf recently.  T-pain and such

top design [Apr. 6th, 2007|02:27 pm]

my new years resolution was to be more forthcoming about embarrassing things about myself on semi-anonymous web things. .  so in that spirit:  I have been watching Top Design.  and more: I pretty much only been watching because i think Andrea is smokin.  I cant believe they eliminated her in favor of that Austin Powers themed piece of crap of a room!!!   that is all for now

pop word salad [Mar. 15th, 2007|11:59 pm]
have you heard the Spandau Ballet - "I know this much is true"  r&b song that is out now by Lloyd?   I wonder if that was a choice of inspiration or desperation. . .  like every last song from the 80's has been already sampled so they had a choice between say Rick Astley, Spandau Ballet, and Ho Jo.  I guess they made the same choice i would have.
sooooooo. . .  starting with an evil sickness that i had a couple weeks ago i have been watching a lot lot of tv.  i watched almost all of Barbarian Week on the War channel where i learned that France got its name from a medieval throwing axe.  i also learned that i weigh exactly 2 lbs more that tyra banks. . . what else. . .  Twiggy is still alive

I'm not trying to make this "funny magazine cover blog" or anything,  but . . . I present you the most unfortunate use of acronym in a woman's issues magazine title

I got a pair of Armani wire rim glasses today at Salvation Army for 99 cents. even better the script is sort of semi close to my own, so i can wear them as a backup. it is a little spooky to be wearing a (probably) dead man's glasses with his lenses. like seeing with his eyes. . .
ok, so a couple posts ago i predicted the end of the Ugg boot trend, and now it is clear how absurdly wrong and naively optimistic I can be. sorry about that
After tomorrow i am off work for about ten days. it is going to be good. AA Soul Club tomorrow night where i might see some people that i havn't seen in a long time.  give a call all those who are coming back to michigan this week

dimensions [Oct. 31st, 2006|04:22 am]
This is a little freaky. . i was looking through the pictures from the Bang this weekend and i see this guy who is some sort of lost twin brother of mine who has very suspect taste in straw hats and sleeveless striped shirts.. .

I was at kelly's wedding at the time this was taken and i wasn't wearing glasses that night so i am sure it was not me. What's going on? anyone know who that is? Some sort of parallel dimension malarkey going on here?

vision [Oct. 25th, 2006|09:25 pm]

For the past year and a half i have been driving around with only one working windshield wiper.  When it rains it gives my passenger the feeling of being hurled into the unknown which, i think, builds a sense of trust . . .Anyway today i found out that it was just a loose bolt and it took just a minute to fix.

Adult [Oct. 18th, 2006|11:21 pm]
hey Detroit,
Is anyone going to see Adult this friday?  Is there any chance that it will sell out?
I might be going but I would like to not pay Ticketmaster  if possible.

So,  from my vantage point here at the library i can tell that Ugg boots are finally on the way out. Sightings are at 5 pair/hour down from 15-20 this time last year (despite this unusually cold October.)

Even more than the sheer drop in numbers though is the diminished bravado of the girls who do wear them:  Folding them down to create the fuzzy ankle weight look seems frowned upon now and the arctic-llama-fur variety are gone.  all the signs of decline.

"Hard Tail Forever" pants are still as popular as ever though. I hope they never go away

A couple musical curiosities this weekend:

Canned Heat is playing at a small bar in Flint tomorrow night.  looks like the drummer is the only member to have been with them since the 60's though.

Then OK Go is playing a free show in the Pioneer highschool parking lot.  The only thing I know about that band is the video of them dancing on the excercise equipment.  is this enough incentive for me to roll out of bed and go see what foolishness is going on?  yes definitely.  lets all go

What have I been listening to lately. .    I got some late disco remixes by  Larry Levan and I have been playing them over and over,  especially a track called "Seventh Heaven".    also, Ruben Studdard.  i like all of that guy's singles so far

sidewalk [Sep. 14th, 2006|08:38 pm]
The city replaced one of the sidewalk squares (slabs?) in front of my house.  today I noticed that someone wrote my initials in the corner of the wet cement with their finger. I have an admirer with a really odd sense of humor. . . who knows where I live.

Miami Vice [Jul. 26th, 2006|11:02 pm]
I was excited about Miami Vice the movie until today when I learned that Colin Farell is playing Crockett.   I was sure we had seen the last of him after Alexander and The New World.  how does he keep getting these leading roles?  maybe he has high level Masonic connections

There is a lot of teen homelessness in ann arbor.  i only say this because 3 kids asked me for money today.  They were all around 15 or 16.  It is hard to convince anyone that you are starving though when you are wearing a clean Pixies t shirt and there is styling gel in your hair.
The longevity of the Pixies baffles me.  also the Violent Fems.  It is probably how the baby boomers feel about the Doors and Pink Floyd I suppose.

I also had this idea today for insomniacs like myself:  It is always easiest to sleep when you know that you have to get up or stay up for something.  So what if there was some kind of service that would take your calendar every month and reschedule everything.  Then shuffle your real obligations with a bunch of false ones.  Then you would fall asleep before them all but they would give you a wake up call before all the real ones.  ??!   eh?

(no subject) [Jun. 1st, 2006|07:44 pm]

So I stayed up all night last night in order to go to court this morning to face the grave punishment for the equally grave crime of having 9 people at my house eating fondue.  Why stay up all night?  Because i knew there was no way i could wake up by 8am,  and i also thought it might help to be bleary and half asleep at court.

The courtroom was this cheesy little annex with some wood benches, a podium, a judge, and a lady who was pretending to be a stenographer,  (but I happen to know that you can't do that by leaning your head on your shoulder and typing with one finger,  so i don't know who she thought she was fooling.)  The docket this morning was 4 noise violations,  a driving with suspended license, and one urinator in public, who didn't speak English so that was an awkward proceeding. The judge has to read this whole rigmarole for each of us about "do you understand your rights" and " if you stand mute a plea will be entered for you" and all this crap. . .  . . . up until this point I had been feeling really jilted by the  system but seeing this poor judge,  well he definitely has the worst, most depressing job in the world and he had to go through law school to get it,  so I started to feel so much better. . .   strange kind of empathy I have.

Anyway,  paid my $150 bucks, got some sleep, and now i am fully reformed and rehabilitated
